Teignmouth 2

Okehampton 1

OKEHAMPTON's hockey men travelled to the league leaders knowing that they were in for a tough afternoon.

The game started at a quick pace and both teams looked lively with quick short passing, though neither looked too threatening going forward.

Mark Parsons managed to take the ball round the keeper but could not convert from a tight angle and only superb defending from the visitors defence and outstanding goalkeeping kept the hosts from taking the lead.

As the half time whistle went both teams knew the game was there for the taking, the away sides work rate had been the difference of the first half.

The game opened up in the second half and both teams started to go for an opening goal.

Teignmouth did eventually manage to work an opening and took full advantage of their spare man who coolly converted to give them a lead.

Okehampton showed more and more fight as they took the game to the home side and after a flurry of short corners they eventually managed to score a well worked routine. Brett Lawson slotted home after good passing from Nick Luxton and Parsons.

Back in the game Okehampton looked good for at least a point but Teignmouth's defence managing to stop anymore attempts from their opponents.

The home side scored a late winner with only three minutes to go and although the visitors piled forward it was too little to late and they lost a superb game.

Oke's man of the match was Andy Harvey.
