Okehampton Argyle 1

Godolphin 2

A STOPPAGE time goal saw Godolphin take the honours and get back to winning ways. Argyle, reduced to 10 men when player manager Stuart Cann was dismissed on the hour for retaliation, would be excused for thinking they had done enough to secure the point.

Okehampton are still looking for their first win since the end of October and this defeat keeps them rooted at the foot of the table with Truro City, although the Okes have games in hand.

The visitors were in total control for the first half hour of this game and squandered several opportunities to get on the score board.

A combination of the woodwork, some poor finishing and a string of good saves from Harry Geering in the Argyle goal prevented Godolphin from taking a well deserved lead.

It was against the run of play when on the half hour Ben Waters gave the home crowd something to cheer about — scoring with a spectacular scissor kick from the edge of the penalty box giving Sean Semmens in the Godolphin goal no chance.

The goal settled Argyle and Luke Alden was unlucky with a long range effort which Semmens tipped over the bar.

The second half was a more even affair and early on Steve Williams should have extended the Oke's lead but shot high with the goalkeeper stranded.

Chances fell to both teams and further saves from Geering continued to frustrate the visitors but unfortunately he was unable to gather an inswinging corner and could only palm the ball onto the head of Lee Paxton who equalised from short range.

Okehampton were reduced to 10 men soon after but to their credit continued to press. Midfielders Ed Squires and Luke Alden gave the Godolphin defenders plenty to worry about and several half chances went close.

Probably the best effort fell to Steve Williams whose fierce shot was turned over.

Ricky Wooldridge replaced Sam Brookes, who was back playing after recovering from illness, and Darren Gilbert replaced Steve Williams as legs began to tire.

It looked like the game was heading for a draw when in injury time Godolphin's Kyle Brown fired the winner in from six yards.

Argyle are away on Saturday to Godolphin in the league, kick-off 3pm; Argyle seconds are at home to St Martin's seconds while Argyle thirds are home to Winkleigh seconds.
