Duchy division two

Calstock 3

Lanreath 2

THIS fixture proved to be an important game for both teams who are both pushing for promotion this season. Both teams came out battling and fighting for possession, Lanreath looked the more likely to get their name on the score sheet first.

However, Calstock's defence consisting of Paul and Stephen Cottingham, worked hard and soaked up the pressure from the visitors and broke down the play. Despite Lanreath's attacking start, Calstock hit the first of the game when midfielder Lee Hould picked up the ball from outside the box, brushed past three defenders and drilled the ball in the bottom corner.

The Lanreath striker continued to get in behind the Calstock defence and came close when keeper Michael Jones slipped collecting the ball — luckily for Calstock the striker did not score. It was Lanreath though, who scored next and equalised. With the heat and the bobbly pitch players started to look tired, however, Calstock battled to get the next goal. Calstock played some superb one touch passing ending with Darren Benfield who deftly laid the ball off for man of the match Lee Hould to run onto and smash in the bottom corner.

The visitors replied with another goal to set up a tense finish. It looked as if it was going to end in a draw, however the ball was swung into the Lanreath goalmouth and Darren Benfield put it into the back of the net giving Calstock the deserved lead and a crucial three points.
