St Loyes (Tap and Barrel) 1 South Zeal Utd 1 ZEAL had not collected any league points since November 13 when winning at home to Bampton. Injuries and weeks without a game due to cancellations have contributed to recent poor form although they should have got at least a point against Okewood and Exmouth and travelled to high flying St Loyes in a defiant but less than confident mood. With man of the match Tom Reilly back after injury playing as a sweeper Zeal took some time to settle as St Loyes attacked relentlessly. But after surviving the first 20 minutes the Zeal defence of Tom Reilly, Reg Wonnacott, Tim Sanderson, Scott Hopper and Lee Gilbert supported by Garry Smith and John Halliday in midfield got the measure of the home side?s attack and frustrated them easily and Zeal deserved to turn round at half time not having conceded a goal. With the slope of the pitch now favouring Zeal they began to get more into the match. They almost made the home side pay as Redd Cann and Luke Honeychurch managed to get forward in support of lone striker Harley Cann who hit the home side?s post 10 minutes from time. With just 2 minutes left St Loyes got a free kick on the edge of Zeal?s penalty area and a magnificent display by the away side looked to no avail as the shot sped into the far corner of the Zeal net giving Adam Cann in the Zeal goal no chance. However from the restart Zeal attacked St Loyes for one last time and a great run from Harley Cann set up a chance for Alan Vile whose close range shot was saved by the home keeper, the ball ran away from the goal pursued by Alan who was then bundled over by a St Loyes defender. From the last kick of the game Tom Reilly stepped up to give the keeper no chance from the spot and Zeal a well deserved point.
