Carlsberg South Western League

Tavistock 1

Falmouth Town 1

HOW this game ended in just a goal apiece was a bit of a mystery as each side created and missed enough chances to add to their single effort.

Falmouth came at the Lambs from the off and spurned two good chances in the first five minutes with Bryn Wheeler side footing wide from close range after ten minutes.

After these early scares the Lambs came more into the game and Falmouth?s keeper Duncan Ayres did well to tip over a Richard Scarle header from a John Gosling cross on 15 minutes.

Equally, the Lambs keeper Andy Meeds returned the compliment. With the Lambs appealing in vain for an offside by an opponent, Leon Massey came through from midfield to close down on Meeds and the keeper did well to block his shot.

Simon Parnell went close for the Lambs and Scarle was again unlucky as he raced into the area to see Ayres save. Then an almighty scramble ensued with the ball twice being cleared off the line.

More than once this season the Lambs have gone behind to a goal just prior to half-time. A quick counter attack with a minute remaining allowed Steve Proctor to get to the by-line to cross for Wheeler to stroke home from close range.

The second half saw the Lambs with the majority of possession and territorial advantage but they could not prise open the Falmouth defence. When it looked like the Lambs would go down to an undeserved defeat they conjured up an equaliser with just two minutes remaining.

From a throw in sub Dave Symons headed on and the ball was laid back by Adrian Payne into the path of John Hadjiyianni to shoot through a crowd of players to earn the Lambs a deceived point.
