Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier
Bodmin Town 5
Tavistock 1
TAVISTOCK visited last seasons champions, and lost in which was an entertaining game. The Lambs had not been beaten at Priory Park in the previous three seasons and went into the game with high hopes of getting a good result.
Tavistock were without several key players for this important fixture due to suspension, holidays and work.
The game started at a furious pace and the Lambs went close in the second minute.
In the fourth minute Bodmin were awarded a penalty when Mark Berry converted after Ben Smallridge had run from his own half and was adjudged to have been fouled in the visitor's penalty area.
The game was very even with each side playing some really attractive football until the 32nd minute when And Meeds spilled a teasing cross from Mark Berry, only for the ball to drop to Karl Turner to turn it over the line. It remained at 2-0 at half time.
In the 48th minute Tavistock had an appeal for a penalty turned down by the referee. Play then remained fairly even with the Lambs pressing forward to try and open their account, but the home defence stood firm.
Midway through the second period Bodmin increased their lead with the best goal of the game when Luke Hodge got the ball wide on the left flank cut inside and fired an unstoppable shot past Meeds from 18 yards.
The Lambs continued to press forward without success and fell further behind when caught on a counter attack and Hodge pulled a ball back into the danger area for Turner to notch his second goal.
The home side completed their scoring when Sam Mathews was brought down in the penalty area for Berry to convert his second penalty.
There was yet another penalty to come this time in the Lambs favour when Miller fouled in the area for Adam Carter to score from the spot.
This was a very disappointing start to the Lambs league campaign but trust this will have the desired effect and make the team realise that they have to perform at a much higher level and intensity if they are going to have any chance of honours this season.
The return of the players missing on Saturday, manager Ian Southcot was looking for first class performance against St Blazey yesterday evening.
