THE new interpretation centre at Roadford Lake, which is due for completion in June of this year, has been praised by the Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate for West Devon and Torridge. On a visit to the building site, David Walter praised the project as ?a great new resource for West Devon?. The centre will feature displays about the environment and local history and there will also be a space for local community organisations to use, as well as catering and conference facilities. Mr Walter said: ?Roadford Lake is a man-made reservoir which was only created in 1990. I am very impressed by the way in which the South West Lakes Trust has made it look so much a part of the natural environment. ?As well as the new heritage interpretation centre, the lake also gives young people the chance to learn sailing. It also provides an impressive number of local jobs. The figure was 184 in the last year for which there are statistics, and the new development should increase that number. Mr Walter said developing sustainable tourism was one of the best ways to increase the prosperity of this area. ?This project will make a big contribution towards this aim,? he said.
