Tavistock Ladies 1 Bideford FC 10 A NEW season and both teams playing in a new division brought plenty of nerves. Tavistock took time to settle; Bideford took advantage and scored two early goals. Tavistock settled down and Candy Capeling and Laura Phillip closed down the defence. The ball started to come upfield and Robynne Honey. playing her debut match for the ladies, went to work breaking through Bideford?s defence, only to be beaten by the keeper. Tavistock stepped up the pace and an attack from the left wing saw Kirsty Jones taking the ball up to score. Lack of fitness took its toll on Tavistock and Bideford came back with another two goals, finishing the first half 1-4. Second half saw new signing Gemma Laird replacing Becci Allen, who picked up an injury. Laura Corralis and Michelle Stubbs battled in midfield, passing the ball out on the wing to Kate Atkison, who took the ball up the right wing, working with Honey and Jones who played well but just could not finish. Each time Bideford came back and good defence work from Louise Galway and Monika Les held up Bideford?s attack, but tired legs took their toll and Bideford started to score. The match ended with Bideford scoring a further six goals. Player of the match: Candy Capeling. This week Tavistock Ladies are away to Totnes.
