Devon and Exeter Intermediate 1

Heavitree and Wonford USC . 4

Okehampton Argyle . . . . . . . . 2

THIS was Argyle's first game since the Christmas lay-off and within the first 20 minutes they scored two goals.

But Heavitree started to get back into the game, scoring just on the half hour.

Shortly before half time they equalised.

In the second half Okehampton struggled to get on terms with Heavitree.

The visiting team went 3-2 down when a shot hit the corner of the post and bar then hit Steve Pengelly on the head and went in.

Heavitree then went on to make the final scoreline 4-2.

Okehampton had a couple of chances in the second half but lack of fitness told at the end of the day.

On the upside Paul Adams played his first game for nearly two years and was as solid as ever.

At the time of going to press there is no match next weekend.

The next match will be away against St Martins, kick off 2.30pm.

All players to meet at the carpark at 12.45pm, leaving at 1pm.

Okehampton Argyle . . . . . . . . 0

OKEHAMPTON returned to action after a five week lay off and started poorly, conceding a goal in the tenth minute.

Within a minute Argyle had a chance to draw level following a flowing move covering the length of the pitch.

The ball finally ended up with Adam Mortimer whose snap shot brought a fine save from the home keeper. This was the catalyst that brought about an extended period of dominance from Argyle.

Ian Gill and Mortimer were stretching the Pinhoe defence with their off-the-ball running and work-rate and it was Gill who should have grabbed the equaliser on a couple of occasios, but he hit the first effort tamely at the keeper and the second went agonisingly the wrong side of the post.

Okehampton had to make an enforced change after half an hour when Chris Drew went off with a bruised knee to be replaced by Burdus.

Argyle continued to press and should have been rewarded when Mortimer was brought down from behind in the box but the vehement protests were waved away by the referee and a similar result happened when a Pinhoe defender handled following a corner.

The real turning point came just two minutes before the interval. Mortimer was put clean through and he calmly chipped the onrushing keeper, but the ball came back off the cross bar.

Neil Agnew knocked in the rebound only to see a Pinhoe defender hook the ball away.

To their amazement the referee and the home linesman both waved play on and as the half finished tempers were at boiling point.

The second period continued with chances at both ends but Argle still maintained the upper hand. That was until the 82nd minute when a lapse of concentration in the defence saw Pinhoe double their lead.

This knocked the stuffing out of Okehampton and they conceded two more goals in the final minutes to leave the scoreline flattering to Pinhoe. Team: Bailey, Vernon N, Gill K, Drew N, Cann, Reddington, Agnew, Vernon M, Drew C, Mortimer, Gill I. Subs: Burdus, Ausden.

This week Okehampton travel to Exeter to play the University, kick-off 2.30pm.
