Okehampton U16s 19

Exmouth U16s 17

OKEHAMPTON started strongly with dominant forward play from West in the lineout, Turner with driving runs and Cox in the loose. Searle led the pack into Exmouth?s half but pressure did not give points and Exmouth opened the scoring with a quick try on the left.

Failing to increase the lead with a missed penalty the visitors were soon in defence and conceded a try from a back line move ending with No 8 Cox feeding second row Turner to drive over the tryline.

Exmouth found good running lines for their second try. Bird cleared up loose ball from a lineout, ran though the defenders and fed Cox on the burst who drove through to score under the posts leaving the half-time score 12-10 to Okehampton.

Hudson found his jumpers all match, pressured the Exmouth scrum half and stole a scrum as well. Exmouth were rucked off the field and the backs ran and kicked well.

Territory was everything and a penalty 25 metres from the line was taken by Herrod-Taylor who was stopped five metres short. A second penalty saw Bolt burrow through tacklers for a converted try. Okehampton then let the visitors back. A misunderstanding saw a high ball bounce into Exmouth?s hands and the score was 19-17 with ten minutes left. Okehampton defended succesfully to win by two Herrod-Taylor conversions to one by Exmouth.
