Duchy Knockout Cup Gunnislake 1 St Teath 2 PREMIER division side Gunnislake were dumped out of the cup by division one promotion challenging St Teath who scored twice in the last 10 minutes. While both teams competed and there was little between the sides, for 70 minutes there was little to recall. Both defences remained on tap as the combination of a bobbly pitch and strong wind saw to it that neither side could get their passing games going. Gunnislake broke the deadlock when from the left side Shane Maton sent over a terrific cross field ball that Ash Dobson guided home on the volley. Saints immediately sacrificed a defender and pushed an extra attacker up front to have a three man strike force. Generally Saints pushed their players further forward and this did see the hosts retreat and get deeper and deeper. Uncharacteristically, Gunnislake became uncomfortable on the ball and kept giving it away with long and often uncontrolled clearances that merely served to encourage Saints. With Gunnislake having been forced to change two of their back four because of injuries, the visitors made a substitution and went with four up front with 10 minutes to go. This worked as they outnumbered the Gunnislake defence twice to score two untidy goals and advance to the semi final. l It was a better day for the reserves who beat North Hill 4-1 with goals from Mike King, Steve Gaggini, Jason Richmond and Dave Henwood. This was a vital three points as there are five teams competing for two division four promotion spots.
