TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club produced the ?clash of the Titans? on Saturday when the club chairman, Ernie Piper faced the club captain, Norman Paramor, in the final of the Kerswill Cup competition. Ernie emerged the 21-17 winner, after a hard fought game. On Bank Holiday Monday over 30 members took part in Bowls Drive, which was won by skip Yvonne Meneer and team of Sue Bailey, Mike Felles and Mike Silcox, who donated their cash prize to this year?s lady captain?s charity fund. Runners-up were skip Vic Stacey and his squad of Charlie Cummings, Marlene Paramor and Frank Welch. Wednesday saw a four rink mixed team facing Plymouth Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club in a home fixture which ended in a 61-68 defeat for the Tavistock players, after their opposition won three of the four rinks. Skip John Smith and his squad of Ray Meneer, Frank Welch and Joan Northey lost 12-17 after their opposition won the last five ends of the game. Skip Norman Paramor and his crew of David Perry, Albert Townsend and Viv Powell-Thomas went down 12-24, after winning only eight of the 21 ends played. Skip Der Saunders and his team of Walter Meek, Brian Ellicott and Harvey Leach lost 13-15, despite a late recovery which saw them pick up eight shots in the last six ends of the match Skip Mike Allen and his team of George Blackburn, Tom Percival and Diana Smirles won 24-12, thanks to them scoring 17 shots in the second half of the game. A friendly fifth rink, made up of two Tavistock teams, saw skip Roy Northam and squad of Ernie Piper, Gordon Northey and Charlie Cummins achieve a 25-14 victory over skip Vic Stacey and crew of Barry Chappell, Laurie Smith and Marlene Paramor. A mixed triples team from Bere Alston were Tavistock?s visitors for a match which ended as a 115-81 victory for Tavistock after they won five of the six rinks played. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and team of Stuart Doidge and Anne Brown won 18-15, while skip Marion Allen led her team of David Perry and George Blackburn to a 16-14 victory. Skip Norman Paramor and his crew of Yvonne Meneer and Harvey Leach won 19-14, while skip Roy Northam and crew of Ray Meneer and Wendy Bloomer won 22-16. Skip Der Saunders and squad of Ernie Piper and Joan Northey notched up a 27-5 victory and skip John Smith and his team lost 13-17. The first of two ladies section away matches during the week was against Elizabethans and ended with Tavistock winning both of the two league rinks and the scheduled Friendly rink. Skip Henny Bawden and her team of Anne Brown, Hazel Lovell and Marlene Paramor won 23-17, while skip Yvonne Meneer and squad of Shirley Blackburn, Betty Browse and Freda Isaac won 26-11. The friendly rink was won 21-20 by skip Val Southern and her crew of Joan Northey and Viv Powell-Thomas. On Friday the ladies travelled to face Unity Park for a friendly match which saw skip Henny Bawden and crew of Diana Smirles and Anne Brown win 21-19 and skip Jenny Aldridge and crew of Viv Powell-Thomas and Val Southern lose 13-20.
