OKEHAMPTON had a surprise visit from an internationally renowned author and evangelist last Saturday week. Geoffrey Kiriungi, author of Violence in the Heavenlies and Principles of Ministry, made a surprise visit to Okehampton with a team of international pastors. Mr Kiriungi is used to speaking to hundreds of thousands in his worldwide campaigns which operate through Jesus Wave International Ministries. He lives in Nairobi, Kenya and was in the south west as part of a whistle-stop UK tour. Mr Kiriungi was travelling to London from Newquay where he had been speaking at a conference. Having briefly met Okehampton Inspiration Church minister the Rev Mike Davies in Kenya, Mr Kiriungi and his team decided to stop in the town. In Kenya, Okehampton is widely talked about through the regular visits of the Church of the Nations ministerial team from Okehampton, Mr Davies, Chris Bourne and Simon Bourne. Mr Davies said: ?It was a wonderful surprise to know that we have put Okehampton on the map in Kenya, that African church ministers are now seeking us out to see if the town is really as good as we claim. ?Geoffrey is a prolific preacher and usually draws crowds in the hundreds of thousands in Africa. I have been trying to get hold of extra copies of his books and have gone to great lengths to obtain some. So it is quite a surprise when the author knocks on your front door!? He added: ?I was quite surprised when Geoffrey said he had heard so much about our work in Eastern Africa.? Also visiting Okehampton and pictured with Mr Kiriungi and Mr Davies are Betty Semabulya, from the Body of Christ Ministries, Woolwich; Patrick Musinguzi, from World Outreach, Leicester; Simon Wzubahimana, from Mission ACF, Tottenham and Leicester-based Dr John Omara.
