KELLY was amongst the most successful and prestigious rugby schools in the Southwest taking part in the The Millfield Sevens recently. The Kelly Under 18 squad was in a group with the national and county sevens champions, Ivybridge College, the previous county champions, Blundells, and hosts, Millfield. The U18s showed no respect for reputations as they quickly established a half time lead against Ivybridge. Tries from Tristram Woods and Rob Brenner gave Kelly College a lead of 12 point to 5. Ivybridge struck back and with just seconds remaining, they led 19-12. But as the ball broke loose, Andre Korenteng picked up the ball and weaved his way over the line beween the posts to touch down and convert his own try. To draw the match was a fantastic performance and one to be really proud of! Although Alex McCarthy scored a late try against Millfield, this match was rather disappointing; despite this defeat, victory over Blundells in the final group game could put Kelly in the semi-finals. Blundells established early control and went three tries ahead ? 0 to 17 ? but in the second half Kelly College fought hard and tries from Cassidy Williams and Tristram Woods made for an exciting last two minutes. Kelly trailed 12-17 and Blundells wrapped up the match with a last gasp try to win 12-22.
