KELLY COLLEGE'S CCF (Combined Cadet Force) contingent, consisting of all three sections, 96 cadets as well as all the officers, non-commissioned officers and adult volunteers, recently underwent its biennial inspection.

During the inspection, two RAF personnel, two officers from 43 Wessex Brigade, the Cadet Training Team and the main inspecting officer, Captain Richard Farrington, who commands the Maritime Warfare Centre at Portsmouth, judged the entire contingent's ability to perform as a disciplined and effective organisation.

Capt Farrington and the rest of the inspection party scrutinised Kelly's cadets as they completed a number of drills and exercises.

These included resolving a simulated hostage situation at Bearwalls Training Area on Dartmoor and an impressive display of the naval section's newly learned skills in field gun running.

Capt Farrington also took part in one of the races and was impressed by the section's plans to add this to their regular training programme.

Other areas under analysis were an RAF drill, a first aid exercise, a Duke of Edinburgh Award briefing, various naval lessons introduced by Cadet Sarah Ham and Cadet Oliver Hancox, a talk on the BTEC diploma and finally a briefing on the various opportunities the cadets have for adventure training.

Capt Farrington repeatedly commented on the positive and personable characters of Kelly's cadets and all at the college expressed congratulations to the cadets for their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the day.
