MUSIC is set to make tracks this weekend as local folk band Jarca take to the trains.

The first music train of 2004 will set off on the Tamar Valley Line from Plymouth to Gunnislake at 3.22pm on Sunday June 6 with Jarca filling the carriages with their unmistakeable blend of Irish traditional tunes and original folk songs.

The band encourages people to bring their own instruments and join in, and there will be some spare instruments on board, as well as plenty of room for people who simply want to sit down and enjoy the mix of chilled music and beautiful scenery.

The music train has been organised by the Friends of the Tamar Valley Line in conjunction with the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership which works to promote the line and the places it serves.

Rail Partnership manager Richard Birmingham said: 'I am delighted that music trains are returning to the Tamar Valley Line.

'They are always a lot of fun and, when you combine the scenic trip with the music, make for a very different afternoon out.'

Future music trains will run on Sundays July 4, August 1 and September 5 at the same times and fares as the June 6 service.

Normal fares apply on the music train and there is no advance booking system — for information on fares and times contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.
