ON Friday April 18 there's an opportunity to take a journey back to the heady days of the British folk revival, with the warm folk harmonies of Squandered Youth, a mix of instrumental talent and trained vocals. Having played together for more than eight years and established themselves on the folk scene west of the Tavy, Jane, Sue and Mel of Squandered Youth present a confident brand of traditional British folk music with harmonised vocals to the fore. On the same bill, you can also meet The Gin Kings. Well known in Walkhampton as the acoustic duo of James Hills and David Gray, The Gin Kings present a growing repertoire of popular covers focusing on the classic era of rock and pop, though not without a few pointers to modern standards. A professional musician, David Gray works hard in the local area bringing an appreciation of music to children and adults willing to learn. James Hills has been playing guitar for a decade including stints in London bands. Both groups appear at Walkhampton Memorial Hall, a venue with a limited capacity of a hundred assuring a more personal interaction with the musicians. The evening is presented by Walkhampton Acoustics, an offshoot of the hall organising committee, with proceeds going towards building renovations. Doors open at 7.30pm for an evening of musical appreciation, a few surprises and a licensed bar.  Tickets, priced at £6 (£8 on the door), can be purchased over the counter at Yelverton Stores or by phoning Simon Ward on 01822 859425.
