A TAVISTOCK College student is in the running to receive a national award.
Sixteen-year-old Josh Andrews, who volunteers for Hospital Radio Plymouth, has been shortlisted down to the final ten nominees within the best newcomer category at this year's National Hospital Radio Awards.
The Hospital Broadcasting Association, which hosts the ceremony, invites entries from over 200 member stations across the country and there is strong competition for the coveted awards.
Josh, who is currently studying for his GCSEs and hopes to pursue a career in radio, presents 'Level 12', a weekly programme dedicated to the paediatric patients at Derriford Hospital.
His show is a lively mix of patient music requests and celebrity guests, his current regular guest being Dancing On Ice contestant Zoe Salmon.
Josh was also the recipient of the station's Lyn Jane Award for Outstanding Contribution last year, in recognition of the contribution he has made to the charity in terms of programming, efforts towards fundraising and collecting patients' record requests.
Hospital Radio Plymouth, who were crowned Station Of The Year at the 2008 awards, have also been shortlisted for three other accolades at this year's ceremony – Station Of The Year 2009, Isobel King for Best Female Presenter and Josie Scobling for Best Speech Package.
Station manager Andrew Hill said: 'Josh, Josie and Isobel have put in a lot of hard work over the past twelve months and have demonstrated their flair and imagination in what they have done.
'I am delighted for them that their efforts have been recognised in the awards shortlisting and I wish them every success for the finals.'
The winners will be announced in Blackpool on March 28 as part of the National Hospital Broadcasting Week.
