PARENTS on the Whitchurch Pre-school committee, spoke to children about their occupations and gave the children an insight into what their day-to-day jobs entail.
Whitchurch Pre-school is managed by a committee of parents, and actively encourages parents to join in with fundraising, take part in sessions and share their skills, knowledge and interests with the children and staff. Three parents provided opportunities for the children to learn about their different occupations and to understand their roles in their community.
One child's father drove an ambulance to the pre-school to explain his role as a paramedic, enabling the children to explore the ambulance and learn about what happens when you are taken to hospital.
Another child's mother brought her dog along and told the children about her role as a veterinary nurse, giving the children the opportunity to listen to the dog's heartbeat through a stethoscope.
Another father is a member of Dartmoor Search and Rescue, and talked to children about his role on the moor, showing the survival equipment he carries and letting the children explore and use it. He also talked to the children about staying safe and wearing clothes appropriate for the weather.
The staff and children expressed thanks to all the parents for their support and for enriching the children's pre-school experience in this way.
