THE Burrator Horseshoe attracted a record entry of 126 runners last weekend, among which were 19 members of Tavistock Athletic Club.

The race covers seven miles over Dartmoor, and is part of the Meavy Oak Fair. It starts and finishes on Meavy village green, by way of Burrator Reservoir, Sheepstor dam and summit, Gutter Tor, Ringmoor Down and Meavy River ford.

Tavistock Athletic Club runners took six of the first seven places. Jim Cole won the event in the second fastest time ever. Chris Eastaugh took the M45 title for the third year in succession, despite injury, and Sue Bratchley was first F40. The race is a firm favourite with junior members and they produced some truly notable performances.

Brennen Townshend finished in second place overall and first junior and this performance showed his ability in multi-terrain racing.

In third position and second junior was Tom Gill. Unfortunately Tom took a wrong turning which cost him a couple of minutes.

Nick Champion was fourth to finish, and third junior, with George Speak, finishing seventh and Ben Brown. 17th, not far behind. Sam Fraser was first female of the younger TAC runners to finish, again in excellent time.

All the juniors show huge effort and commitment in their training, and achieve such fast times with the unstinting help of club coaches Robin Musgrave and Carrie Lawson.
