JILL Cobbledick from Meeth decided to celebrate her 40th birthday with a fundraising push for children?s charity CLIC.
A party in her local village hall raised more than £500 for the cancer charity.
Fundraiser Jill said: ?A dear friend of mine has recently lost her 16-year-old daughter to cancer.
?The family told me of the tremendous support they received from CLIC and how they would not have managed without the help from the charity?s nurses as well as being able to stay at the CLIC ?Home from Home? in Bristol.?
A ?Home from Home? is somewhere a family can stay together during their child?s treatment. They are situated within walking distance from specialist paediatric oncology centres and provide free, self-catering accommodation for all family members for as long as they need it while their child is being treated in hospital.
If a child is well enough CLIC Homes can also provide a welcome break from a hospital bed.
Fundraising manager for CLIC in Devon and Cornwall Beverly Bell said she was delighted with the donation: ?This will help support our vital work. CLIC has a constant need to raise considerable funds to provide practical help, care and support to children with cancer and their families.
?Our efforts would be impossible without the generosity of people like Jill. CLIC receives no government funding and relies entirely upon voluntary donations and fundraising by members of the public.?
