A SPANIEL who is looking trimmer thanks to a special diet has won a cup from his vet to celebrate his achievement.

Okeford Vets launched the Slimmer of the Year Cup in 2012, sponsored by client Yvonne Street. The cup is to be given to an animal who has lost weight to reach a healthy level.

Jet, a seven-year-old cocker and springer spaniel cross, won the award following a drastic weight loss.

Jet was adopted last year by the Clark family. He had been in a loving home, but due to unforeseen circumstances, he was unable to remain there.

At his first health check following his adoption Jet weighed 27 kilograms, and was classed as obese. He was also found to have a heart murmur, making it all the more important for him to lose the excessive weight.

He was put onto an obesity control diet and exercise regime, and he now weighs a healthy 20 kilograms.
