A KEEN runner from Okehampton has continued her quest to raise money for charity, after she took part in the London Marathon.

Jenny Rice, who has so far raised £1,200 for the charity Living Hope in Uganda, suffered a major training setback at the beginning of March due to an injury.

She said: 'I hadn't really trained properly since then, so on the morning I was incredibly nervous as I had only run 16 miles way back at the end of February.

'I had no idea how I was going to cope but somehow I managed to get round in under four hours.'

Jenny ran the marathon in 3 hours and 53 minutes.

'I still don't quite know how I did it.

'The support from the crowd played a big part in keeping me going and I never walked once.

'The hardest thing for me was the heat, but thanks to the regular water stations and showers, I managed to keep just about cool enough.'

Jenny, who intends to run the marathon again in a few years to try and improve on her time, is currently back in training for her summer trip cycling Land's End to John O' Groats for two weeks in July.
