SIMMONS Park will see teams test their strength later this month in part of an unusual event organised by Okehampton Lions.

The Lions' Log Struggle will see teams of six people — to include a minimum of two women — carry a heavy log around an obstacle course in the quickest time possible on Sunday, June 30.

There will also be a lighter junior version for under 16s in teams of four.

The individual time trial nature of the event will see teams take on the course one at a time, and the team around the course fastest will be declared the winner. Entry is free, though the Lions would appreciate donations.

Okehampton Lions president Adrian Raymond said: 'The idea for the log struggle is not new to Okehampton —apparently, there used to be one run by the Buffalo Club.

'However, I saw an article about how the log struggle event is becoming popular with fitness type people in America, and I thought this might be a new event for Okehampton to encourage people into the town and Simmons Park in particular.

'There will be a bouncy castle, stalls, a beer tent and refreshments. Hopefully, there will be something for everyone. All we need is nice weather!'

The Lions are also hoping to organise some additional exercise activities in the park, with other challenges to take on.

Entry forms are available from [email protected]">[email protected] or by calling Lions president Adrian Raymond on 01837 53553.
