FORTY six players and supporters of Belstone Cricket Club enjoyed their 2010 annual dinner and awards evening at the Tom Cobley Tavern in Spreyton.

Chairman Dennis Edwards began the speeches by praising the summer weather with only one game lost to rain out of 37.

In the North Devon League the club finished comfortably mid-table in division four with David Binns receiving the League's 'young player of the year award as the best U19s player out of 44 teams in the five divisions at a recent presentation in Barnstaple.

The inter-village Buckley Cup was the closest fought for years with Spreyton emerging the winners by two points from Belstone. Chris Filor accepted the Cup for Spreyton and thanked Belstone for organising the competition.

Belstone president Peter Hammond then presented the other awards: The Pearsall Trophy for the annual Belstone v Sticklepath match was accepted by the winning Belstone skipper Phil Woods.

Three names went on the Hammond Bat for centuries scored in the season: Phil Woods (136 not out), David Binns (113) and Gary Sizmur (110 not out).

The Woodward Cup for the batsman with the best average was won by vice-captain Scott Tremain who scored 588 runs at an average of 39.20. Both the Colts best individual performance and overall season's batting awards were won by Trevor Oats.

The Barton Best bowling award for the best figures in a single game went to Jonathan Parsons, who took seven wickets for three runs against Sticklepath. The Telecare Cup for best overall bowling average was awarded to David Binns for his 29 wickets at an average of 12 apiece.

The Colts best individual bowling award went to Henry Holmes and the Colts overall season's bowling trophy went to Thomas Boother. The fielding award was shared by Harry Bushin and Phil Woods with 13 catches each. The Duck Cup went to Corey Burns, Peter Harlow, James Ewen, Harry Bushin and Phil Dennis. The best young cricketer award went to David Binns; the best junior colt was Indigo Brownhall, and the best colts all-rounder to Corey Burns. Naomi Wilkins won the ladies award as the first lady to turn out for Belstone for many years. Phil Dennis won the Good Servants Trophy in recognition of his work with the Colts; Richard Penny, the club's scorer, was awarded the non-playing members award; while Harry Bushin won the clubman of the year trophy.
