BEAVERS, cubs, scouts and leaders from the 1st Okehampton Scout Group took part in a double Guinness World Record attempt recently as part of the BT Giant Sleepover. The international event involved children sleeping over for the night of Saturday, June 17, and also simultaneously brushing their teeth. This is the third annual BT Giant Sleepover. Last year, 31,587 people took part in the event across the UK and around the world, setting a new Guinness World Record. This year youngsters from primary schools, scouts, guides, boys and girls brigade, and Sea Cadets took part. Those taking part had to have lights off for a minimum of seven hours and not sleep in their beds. They also took part in a new activity, the Aquafresh Minty Mouth challenge ? another Guinness World Record attempt ? for the most people brushing their teeth at the same time. They started cleaning their teeth simultaneously for precisely two minutes at 8.30am. For the first time ever, the records were being ratified by text message, using the same technology as in Big Brother voting. The record attempts will be checked by Guinness World Records and authenticated in the next few weeks.
