A ?BLOCK? netball fixture home and away against local rivals Plymouth College took place last week and the result was a clean sweep of victories for Kelly College.

The first team fixture was played at Kelly. A tight match was expected, but Kelly came out as winners in what ended up as a rout of the opposition - the final score of 54-5 meant the Kelly VII scored, on average, every 44 seconds!

The team was captained by Charlotte Steadman, ironically the only player not selected for the West Devon Under 18 squad.

The other team members were Sarah Palmer, Tamara Renouf, Alex Sutton, Cherry Phypers, Jo Hollick and Katie

Renouf.

The Under 16 VII ? Gerry Bull, Frances Kent, Sophie Pendle, Stephanie Croft, Jenny Underdown, Vicky Sanders and Faye George ? also played at home.

After trailing at half-time, they fought back with determination to achieve a 14-11 victory.

The two younger teams travelled to Plymouth College. Due to high winds and a freezing temperature, both the U14 and U15 VIIs played indoors in their sports hall. The U14s were only one goal in the lead at half-time. With a couple of changes in the centre court, the Kelly girls found a higher gear and romped ahead to finish 17-7 by the final whistle.

Captain Charlie Cowie led her team by example, scoring goals from the edge of the D, with Laura Ikamba as GA following suit.

The team spirit was high after a difficult league fixture on the Monday evening at Marjons, where lessons had been learned in a tough club match.

The U15s, who do not have the advantage of playing in the Junior Netball League at Marjons, nonetheless performed well, leading 9-3 at half-time.

In the second half, they worked on improving their attacking strategies, although a weakness feeding the ball into the shooters caused a breakdown in the fluency of attack.

At the final whistle, the score was 17-6.
