YOU just had to be there! That was the response from almost 100 young people after two weeks creating and staging original shows at the Coronation Hall in Mary Tavy as part of the All Out Performing Arts Summer School.

In the first week the junior cast produced, 'Losing Hazel', an epic adventure involving a caravan, a strange village in Devon and an excursion to a Wild, Wild Wood where a scary robotic crusher lurked unseen.

The second week, seniors responded with a show geared to delight any audience. The 'Wedding Show', was set in 1977 and covered miners' strikes, power cuts and gameshows before moving the action to Mexico City to meet gangs of Desperados, modelled on 'Charlie's Angels', incompetent, gun-wielding police and the Wombles!

Julian Barnicoat, an All Out artistic director, said: 'So many people are telling us this was the best summer school ever. That's brilliant of course but it's nice to say it's a comment we hear every year.

'The job now is to come up with ideas and a show that can rival or even top this in 2013.

'We're confident we will because, we have some incredibly talented and enthusiastic young people in this region – we must never lose sight of that.
