MORE than £1,600 was raised for Tavistock URC roof fund this summer, following a successful IT course. The course was organised by tutor Janet Mashford, who was delighted at the success of the students, whose average age was 78. ?The courses became a social experience and many new friendships were formed. It is this relaxed atmosphere that makes learning fun and helps the memory ? we adopted the motto ?If you don?t use it, you loose it?!? said Janet. The 36 students all paid £45 each for the course with the tutor, administrator and helpers giving their time for free. At the end of the course there was a celebration cream tea attended by the mayor of West Devon, Cllr Dennis Bater, who presented certificates, the Rev Roger Cornish of Tavistock URC and Lt Colonel Joan Williams of Tavistock Salvation Army. l The successful URC IT students are pictured above with tutor Janet Mashford (third left).
