WHITCHURCH Ladies entertained top of the league Isca on Sunday and although the visitors from Exeter could only field nine players, they were all experienced Devon county players. The home side won the toss and asked the visitors to bat. An excellent display by the Whitchurch bowlers with the ball resulted in Isca all out after only 12 overs after posting a total of 26. Whitchurch?s bowling figures were: C Griffen 6-3-9-4 and Smith 4-0-10-3. Leslie Smith and Gillian Northey opened the batting for Whitchurch and a steady display by the openers almost saw the home team through but Northey gave away her wicket going for an extravagant shot. This brought Cath Amore to the wicket and Whitchurch reached the required target without further loss. The player of the match was Donna Ward for her fielding including a catch that saw the end of Devon skipper Jackie Summers. This excellent result for Whitchurch has left the league wide open. They play away to second in the league Paignton on June 17 and hope to continue their winning run. l Any ladies interested in playing cricket should come along to training on Friday at the pitch, starting at 7pm or visit http://www.whitchurch.cc">www.whitchurch.cc for details.
