I SEE the county council are at it yet again. Not content with redesigning historic Bedford Square ? with questionable results; siting a curiously designed mini-roundabout, of questionable need, on Plymouth Road; siting a pedestrian crossing, again on Plymouth Road and in a location not known for its pedestrian throng; they are now ripping up the significant quarried stone pavement adjacent to the bus station and replacing it with tarmac!

Quite how these apparently intellectually challenged people think that such ?modernisation? fits in with Tavistock being advertised far and wide as ?an Ancient Stannary Town? beats me.

I was under the impression that councils were ?accountable? to the local population, but I don?t remember any publicity about this latest bit of desecration and I do wonder if anyone ? the local historical society for instance ? were consulted? Oh! and parts of this same stretch of pavement were recently ? last year? ? subject to being re-laid and re-pointed.

Truly breathtaking.
