A SPECIAL protective coating is to be put on windows in Tavistock Town Hall in an effort to protect a historic piece of embroidery celebrating the new Millennium.
The work of art is being created by the Tavistock and District Branch of the Embroiders' Guild and depicts the town through the ages — the embroidery has taken 40 members of the guild four years to create.
Town clerk Roger Howard said: 'It's a large tapestry in a U-shape and it will go over the entrance to the mayor's parlour.
'The council has produced a special frame for the tapestry itself which is ultra violet-proof, but you need more than one method to stop the UV.'
The invisible film coating will be applied to the large window opposite the parlour entrance which will stop the tapestry from fading and protect it for years to come.
