PLACES are still available on a new short course in Okehampton to help people with long-term medical conditions to develop skills to help them manage their pain and improve their quality of life.

The Expert Patient Programme is an opportunity for people with chronic health conditions to come together with others and gain skills to help them cope with the difficulties of their long-term health problems.

The course offered by the Mid Devon Primary Care Trust started this week and comprises six weekly

sessions of two and a half hours every Tuesday afternoon at the Ockment Community Centre.

Course co-ordinator Carmel Fanconi said: ?People who have been on similar courses have said they found them very helpful. The benefits include better control of the symptoms, fewer and shorter visits to hospital, and an improved quality of life.?

If you live in the Okehampton area and have a chronic health condition, you can register or find out more about the programme by contacting Carmel on 08000 730792.
