RECENTLY Okehampton received a visit from the Christian Aid Area Co-ordinator for Devon and Dorset. He was accompanied by Karimi Kinoti who works for Christian Aid in Kenya.
Sitting in the comfort zone of Fairplace Church, a number of people representing different churches in the area heard that Christian Aid had been active for 58 years and that its aims are grounded in the second world war.
The main aim is to expose the scandal of poverty which is still the ultimate weapon of mass destruction. It is truly appalling to hear that the equivalent to a Jumbo jet full of children die of hunger every thirty minutes.
What can be done? Quoting from Edmund Burke: 'The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing'.
I know that there are many agencies, groups and individuals working for a fair deal for those less fortunate than ourselves, however when we all work together, we can help change the world. We were given a challenge to set up an action group in Okehampton. Look out for further news.
Meanwhile here are some dates for your diary.
