WE had been staying in a cottage in South Zeal and Friday was the last day of our holiday. Prior to leaving for Okehampton I had commented in the suggestions book in the cottage on how friendly the local people were, unaware of the how this was to be shown so publicly. At around 1130am I was getting out of my car when I banged my head on the door, causing a large cut and a lot of bleeding. A traffic warden was close by and immediately called for an ambulance, which arrived within five minutes and I was conveyed to Okehampton Community Hospital, where I was treated immediately. However, also at the scene of the accident two ladies helped me by covering me with a blanket and giving me a drink of water. My wife believes they were from a nearby office. Unfortunately, I do not know any of their names and whilst I have written to the hospital and chief constable to thank the nurses and traffic warden, I have no way to thank the two ladies other than if you put a notice in your paper. I hope you do, because to me it shows that despite the constant spate of news about anti social behaviour, and as a magistrate I see enough of it, there are still Good Samaritans around and I was lucky to have met some of them. Many thanks to them. Mike Bowman 10 Beaulieu Court Bridlington, Yorkshire
