I WAS surprised to read that there could be a plan to add a fitness suite to Meadowlands Pool as I would have thought that the two existing suites in the town have some surplus capacity. Has anyone checked with the management of these suites?

I do not know the details, but did some council funds not go into establishing the TACRA suite, and if this is the case, why is the council considering funding a second suite in competition?

I do not know if there were plans for developing the TACRA suite which have yet to materialise. Would it not be better for the council to spend any money it has available to improve and develop this suite rather than start from scratch at a different site? This would also be of more benefit to the students at the college. A suite at Meadowlands would also increase the need for car parking during the day ? has this been considered? Members would also have to pay for parking, unlike the other two suites, and this might be a disincentive.

I believe that Bodyzone is already in a position to deal with referrals from GPs so they do not have to wait the 12/24 months for a new fitness suite to be built.

I am also concerned as to where the new suite would be sited adjacent to Meadowlands. I would not wish to see any part of the Meadows used, as the cyclepath has already taken part of the playing field at the bottom away, and with the skate park coming it seems that more and more open space is disappearing. I do not dispute the need for these projects, but feel that no further development of the Meadows should take place.

As a council tax payer, I expect to see value for my money, and I do not see a convincing case for a new suite at Meadowlands. As a member of the Tavistock Athletic Club, it would be nice to see any money that the council has available go towards improving the athletic facilities already agreed at Crowndale for the benefit of the club?s 200 members and the general public.
