LOCAL charity Westden is seeking a special community to take part in an exciting new ?Green Village? project. The project will work with residents in one West Devon village to look at the way they live and how their lives affect the environment around them. Westden project manager Oz Osborne said: ?We will find out if people are supporting local shops, farms and businesses; how much they use their cars; how well their houses are insulated, and if they recycle. ?By looking at these and other factors, and then working together to implement some simple changes, we can make the village an even better place to live. The idea is not to impose change but to help people make choices.? The aim of the project is to promote sustainability? initially within a single village community over 12 months. In the longer term it is hoped the lessons learned from this pilot programme could be applied to a wider district or population, with comparative exercises within the UK and overseas. Westden will be working with a range of partners from organisations that offer expertise on issues such as energy, transport and community business which relate to sustainability.
