A RECORD £802 was raised by the Friends of Okehampton Community Hospital during Hospital Week. The Friends of Okehampton Community Hospital were astounded by the generosity of people and the amount contributed, believing it to be the most raised in recent years. Chairman John Marvin said :?The money will help us with the purchase of a Resusitaire for the maternity unit at Okehampton and some leaflet racks in reception. ?Together they will cost about £7,500 but thanks to the public?s generosity we can now go ahead with the purchases?. He thanked everyone for the effort they had put in to help raise the money: ?This figure is a record for us in recent years. We are extremely grateful to the people of Okehampton and the surrounding villages who have responded so generously.? Sincere thanks was expressed to the residents of Northlew who showed magnificent support for the cause and contributed £140 to the collection after a successful door to door collection. The Friends of Okehampton Community Hospital will be at Okehampton Show on Thursday, August 11, where they hope to meet all their supporters, and recruit more members. They will also be offering cups of tea and the opportunity to buy a raffle ticket to win a food hamper.
