TWO long-serving members of the Royal British Legion were honoured for their hard work and commitment this week.

Charlotte Sparkes, who has been a member for more than 20 years, was presented with a county certificate. She is currently president of the Okehampton women's section but in the past has been chairman, joint secretary, has served on the welfare committee and has represented the women's section on the branch committee.

Joan Gundry, who is now retired, has been standard bearer for the branch and has helped with branch welfare. She was presented with a certificate of appreciation.

Devon County president of the Royal British Legion women's section Sue Stevens was guest of honour at the event and presented the awards.

Legion members and supporters were all present and enjoyed a tea provided by the committee, together with a specially decorated cake and wine to toast the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion.

Chairman Linda Singer thanked everyone for coming along to mark the occasion.
