Lamerton 2

Gunnislake 2

ON an icy cold afternoon at Caldwell Park Lamerton played host to local rivals Gunnislake and the game reflected a typical local derby.

Lamerton, who beat Pensilva the previous week, were full of confidence, and started brightly. The first half ended 0-0 with not too many chances to mention for either side but the second half was the complete opposite. Gunnislake, who are pushing for the title, came out and attacked Lamerton from the start of the second half.

With Jimmy Steer running the midfield for Lamerton and good interlinking play with Paul Breyley any through balls were intercepted by the back four of Simon Breyley, Steve Lake, Rob Dicken and the outstanding Liam Mills at right back when they were breached Pete Daniel stood firm in the Lamerton goal.

It was Simon Breyley who put the hosts ahead on 60 minutes when he converted from close range after Gunnislake failed to clear their lines from a corner. The visitors equalised from the penalty spot when Jarryd Kelly was brought down by Breyley in the box. Kelly converted the kick to bring the scores level. This just spurred Lamerton on and Richard Searle restored the lead for Lamerton with a delightful finish.

Gunnislake pushed for an equaliser and on several occasions called Pete Daniel in the Lamerton goal to make saves to keep Lamerton ahead including a double save of high order from Jarryd Kelly.

Lamerton played with confidence to soak up the Gunnislake pressure but then saw their captain Simon Breyley sent off for man handling Jarryd Kelly.

The home side pressed on with Blair Vanstone a constant menace for Gunni to deal with. Gunnislake now having a man advantage pressed for the equaliser. A ball over the top of the midfield allowed Matt Endacott through on goal and after another double save from Daniel, Endacott picked up the second rebound to fire home for the equaliser.
