AN OPEN information morning discussing energy efficiency measures for the home and ways to reduce the carbon footprint is the first event of an energy assessment of North Tawton.

Devon Heartlands Community Development Trust has been awarded a two-month research study by Local Energy Assessment Fund (LEAF) to carry out the assessment.

The LEAF scheme encourages and supports activities at a community level to increase understanding and uptake of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy technologies.

The purpose is to explore ways to help local people and businesses save on their energy costs and make their long-term energy supply more secure.

The community trust is working with specialists, Devon Association for Renewable Energy (DARE) and the North Tawton Environmental Trust to deliver the programme of work, including energy audits of homes and community buildings, plus hosting community awareness events.

The first major event is a free information morning on Saturday February 25 in North Tawton Town Hall from 9am to noon. There are opportunities to learn about potential energy efficiency measure to reduce the cost of heating a home. Potential grants to subsidise installation costs will also be a topic of discussion.

The latest electric vehicle technology including quad bikes will be on display, and there will be a chance to join the community composting scheme.

The community trust hopes that through the event, a number of households will have a free energy audit undertaken by DARE.

All are welcome to attend the free, open event.
