THE cross country season of Tavistock Athletic Club's Adam Holland's season just gets better and better — he strode to victory in the U17 men's race on Saturday.
In the penultimate fixture of the six-race Westward League series Holland won by patiently biding his time before bursting to the front in the last lap.
He was joined at Paignton by six other Tavistock athletes: Alex Richards and Ross Honey came seventh and 16th respectively in the U15 boys' race while Suzy Blandford came 11th in the U15 girls.
Martin Exley, also having a fine cross country season, came ninth in the senior men's race with Robin Musgrave finishing 40th and Pete Bazley 69th.
This victory sets Holland up nicely for his forthcoming trip to Nottingham where he will represent
Devon in the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships — he qualifies as Devon U17 champion.
He will not be the only Tavistock athlete in Nottingham on March 6: Alex Richards also qualified for Devon, as did Richard Drage who gets his senior men's place after a good performance in the county championships earlier this year.
Martin Exley will also be there representing Cornwall.
The final Westward League meeting has been moved to March 21and will be held in Exmouth.
Meanwhile Tavistock Athletic Club's Grand Prix series kicks off this Sunday at the Plymouth Hoe 10.
The Grand Prix series is made up of a total of 14 mainly road race events held between now and October.
For the first time this year the
series will also include the County Track and Field Championships and the first of the next round of Westward League cross country events.
Club members score points depending on where they finish in their age group in each race. Their final points total comes from their best nine events — full details of this can be found on the club's website at http://www.tavistockathletics.com">www.tavistockathletics.com
