'AT the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them' — as Remembrance Day approaches, Okehampton branch of the Royal British Legion has launched its Poppy Appeal.
Members of the 4th Battalion (The Highlanders) met Okehampton and District Poppy appeal organiser Val Hoar to highlight the launch of the appeal on Tuesday, October 30.
They were in Okehampton to pay their respects to Corporal Michael Pike, who was killed in action Afghanistan last year. His name has been added to the town's war memorial at All Saints Parish Church.
Last year the appeal in Okehampton and the area raised just over £17,000, and the appeal team are hoping to raise as much money as possible this year.
Each year, the Poppy Appeal sell remembrance poppies to commemorate soldiers who have died in war and support those in the armed forces community.
This year the Royal British Legion is hoping to raise £42-million nationally.
