TAVISTOCK College held its inaugural U15 girls sevens' tournament in brilliant sunshine last week.

Mhairi McCall, one of the organisers said: 'Nine teams were entered from both Devon and Cornwall and a successful rugby day was had. Georgina Rozario and Kim Oliver, both England ladies' players, attended the event and held some coaching sessions between games.

'Both of them were very pleased with the standard of the rugby being played. The event was won by Clyst Vale Community College with Tavistock College runners-up.'

The tournament was organised through the GRO2011 project which is a scheme run by the RFUW to deliver quality projects in the county boards that help to recruit more players into the game. The girls' rugby officers for Devon are Mhairi McCall and Jess Veacock who would like to thank Tristan Forster, head of PE at Tavistock College for hosting this first event.

All the schools that attended have asked for it to be an annual event, such was the girls' enjoyment on the day.
