PUPILS at five schools and nurseries will be easier to spot on the roads thanks to a donation of high visibility vests from a local opticians.

Specsavers Okehampton has made a donation of fluorescent vests to Stepping Stones Day Nursery, as well as to East Lake Riding School, Exbourne Primary, Hatherleigh Primary and South Tawton Primary.

Karen Reader, store director of Specsavers in Okehampton, said: 'With the frequent trips the schools go on it is vitally important for the children to remain visible.

'As the evenings are now darker the vests will also help to keep the children safer when walking to and from school or nursery.'

Specsavers has campaigned throughout the past decade to highlight the link between vision and road safety.

Working with police constabularies across the UK and national road safety charity Brake, Specsavers has toured motor shows and county shows nationwide with its Drive Safe campaign trailer to screen drivers' vision.
