THE Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton has received a big financial boost, thanks to Okehampton Town Council.

The council has donated £3,500 to the museum to go towards running costs of the attraction. The money will help to fund extra events like family fun days planned for August and the October half term.

Museum manager Andrew Thompson said: 'The museum has an important role to play in attracting visitors to the town, as well as making Okehampton a more vibrant place to live in. We thank Okehampton Town Council for their ongoing support, it is very important to us and hugely appreciated.'

Town mayor Cllr the Rev Mike Davies presented the museum with their cheque.

He said: 'The museum is a very worthwhile cause, and a good thing for the entire community, from children to the older among us. It is good that it can remain open and has a vision for the future.'

The museum's current exhibition, Quarry Voices, documents an oral history of limestone and granite quarry workers in Devon and Cornwall. The exhibition runs until the end of August.
