HAVE you thought about becoming a Pilates or aerobics instructor but don't know how?

Would you like to see a group of people you're working with become more physically active? Well, the 5X30 project in West Devon can help you.

The 5X30 project works on the simple basis that each of us should be physically active by some means 'five times a week for thirty minutes', be it walking, gardening or doing the shopping.

The project's activators are working across West Devon to help individuals and groups become more active more often. The project also offers grants to help train individuals and set up new physical activities, access existing ones or simply run some taster sessions to see what the local interest is.

The activators can help groups or individuals to apply for these funds, and give support but anyone seeking finance will need to hurry, as the grants deadline is December 15, 2008.

The 5X30 project has been so successful over the past three years that it is now being rolled out across the whole county, and will be coordinated by Westbank Healthy Living Centre in Exminster.

Hannah Colston, West Devon Borough Council's sports development officer, said: 'The Activators will provide the knowledge and support that is needed to turn good ideas from local people into sustainable physical activity groups. This work really is fantastic and can help those hard to reach groups.'
