ON Wednesday October 6 about 1pm, my yellow buggy (scooter), unbeknown to me, was needing the battery charged. I managed to get it from Morrison?s supermarket to the pedestrian crossing but it would not go up the slope on the far side to get me to Bishopsmead. In fact, it cut out suddenly and started to roll backwards into the road. My first thought was to get off and push it forward. Fortunately for me a passing lady driver saw my predicament, parked her car, and came to my rescue. She pushed the buggy off the road and asked if I was all right. Apart from a bruised leg, I was okay, just a bit shocked. I realised I would not be able to get the buggy up the slope, through the hedge, so I asked my unknown rescuer to help me get onto the flat path, which she readily did. Thank you so much, I hope you read this. My problems were still not over, the buggy would not go up even the slightest gradient. Fortunately, I had my mobile phone with me, and called Tavistock Area Support Service who quickly sent a volunteer, who helped get me and the buggy home to my front door and fix up the charging lead. If I had rolled into the road and been hit by a passing car, it would have made news. Because I had so many kind helpers it?s not so interesting, but I am always telling folk that there are still more helpful people about than unkind and not to be so afraid. Thank you very much all the people who volunteered their help. Margaret King Bishopsmead
