THE FAMILY of a three-year-old girl who has only been given months to live are appealing for help to take her on a family holiday to Disneyland Paris.
Sandra Bunt from Lamerton is helping to raise the £2,000 needed to take her niece Kimberley Stacey and Kimberley's mum and dad to the holiday attraction to make the most of her short life.
Kimberley, who lives in Liskeard, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer of the brain and spine 18 months ago and underwent three major operations and intensive chemo-therapy and radiotherapy. Although this helped Kimberley's health improved, a check up just after Christmas revealed three new brain tumours.
Sandra Bunt said: 'Kimberley has been to Disneyland before and all she talks about is going back to see Mickey and Minnie again. We just want to do as much as we can for her.'
The diagnosis came after months of Kimberley leaning her head to one side which doctors could not find the reason for. After an MRI scan, she was found to have an aggressive and rare childhood cancer usually found in the kidneys — with very few cases reported in the spine.
One of the three operations that followed involved a 10-hour procedure where surgeons had to break Kimberley's back to remove the tumour.
Kimberley had to learn to move and walk again after surgery and she has only recently begun to talk again.
Miss Bunt said her niece had been through so much: 'She has spent almost all the last year and a half in hospital. We want to give her this trip as soon as possible because it is all she wants. We also hope to have a big garden party for her birthday in July.'
Lamerton Primary School has a donation box where people can contribute to Kimberley's Disneyland fund or anyone who wishes to help can also call Sandra Bunt on 07789 212928.
