CONGRATULATIONS to Claire Wesson, headteacher of the Tavistock Church Schools' Federation, for having the foresight to contact the town council regarding the parking spaces that will be vacant when the police station moves from its current location.  Whilst I can understand that this is a valuable piece of land, I cannot comprehend the response of Cllr Ted Sherrell.

His response was totally uncalled for and frankly rude. Mrs Wesson is in charge of one of the major infant and junior schools in the Tavistock area and should be treated with respect as a member of this community.

I believe Cllr Sherrell should issue a letter of apology and give some thought to this; parents, carers and their extended families of these schools have long memories and will remember your comments the next time you come banging on the door wanting our vote!

I WAS completely and utterly disgusted by the article (Times October 13) about Cllr Sherrell blasting a simple request by my son's school (St Rumon's) on parking for the teachers.

I was horrified to see that he'd almost laughed the request out, then made a connection to Plymouth Argyle! Well, that shows me what is more important to him — not the children of a local school that has been here longer than I can remember, longer than my mother can, and longer than her mother can.

I see those poor teachers lugging their massive bags to and from the school, to give my son the best education. I may add he has really come into his own and has come on leaps and bounds because of their dedicated work, and our town council can't even support them.

I'd hang my head in shame if I were Cllr Sherrell. He should give up and watch Plymouth Argyle go down the pan as this is clearly a more pressing matter!

I always thought children and their education was the most important thing. What happens when my son doesn't have his teacher there because she/he is trawling the outskirts of town searching for a parking space? Or is Cllr Sherrell going to suggest they leave earlier when I know some leave stupidly early as it is? It is utterly disgusting our council can't support our local school!
